Eli & Adam | Catching Up

Adam could tell Eli was a little jittery, but didn’t put too much thought to it. “Oh definitely. Love being in walking distance of the Dot.” Adam laughed a little bit and watched him carefully, trying to figure out what was wrong. He was a little shocked when Eli said he felt bad. “Eli, you had nothing to do with that. You shouldn’t feel bad at all.” He nodded when Eli stood up and got some coffee. He sat quietly waiting for him to come back. When he said what he did, Adam nearly choked on his coffee. “Uh physio was rough. Intense. But I’m better now. I mean, I’m regaining strength back in my arm quickly. It was a simple shot. Vince didn’t really mean to hit me, if he was aiming, it would’ve been worse. Much worse.”

“Better than what feels like a million blocks of walking,” He shrugged. He missed his car, and he hated that his dad had to drive him to school and pick him up. He could see the pure shock on Adam’s face when he said he felt bad. He was his friend, why wouldn’t he feel bad about it? Maybe he was freaking out over nothing though. “I know,” He said and looked down at his hands again. They were shaking so he moved them off the table and into his lap. Then he got an idea to get coffee, that wouldn’t help but caffeine makes people shake sometimes so he could blame it on that if it was brought up. “Dude, don’t choke,” He said and sat his coffee down, his eyes on Adam. He leaned back into the chair again, “That’s good. That’s true, it was just a freak thing, but still,” He said and took another sip of his coffee. He wanted to ask if he had talked to Clare, but he wasn’t sure if he should or even how. He sat there and looked around the coffee chop before gulping down some more coffee. “Ahh,” He smacked his lips together. “It’s weird to think how close we were last year,” He said, shifting his eyes back to Adam. “Did it change because of me?” He asked. He might be bi-polar but he wasn’t a heartless, soulless black pit, he still felt things.

Adam nodded. “I know. I’m lucky. He could’ve hit somewhere more serious. I’m glad it was just my shoulder.” Adam took a deep breath and listened to him talk. The honest answer was no. They hadn’t changed because of just Eli. It was both of them. Hell it was even Clare somewhat. “No. It wasn’t just you, I mean. After I got shot, everything changed. I didn’t want to see people anymore, no matter what. I hung out with Drew, Bianca, Katie and my family. That was it. I spent my summer locked in my house, playing video games.” Adam sighed. “But I mean, things did start to change after yours and Clare’s breakup. It was just a matter of time before everything changed.”

Eli & Adam | Catching Up

Adam hadn’t hung out, or really even talked to Eli in awhile. Not really since everything that happened at prom last year, with the shooting. Part of it had definitely been Adam’s fault. Due to the immense amounts of physio he had, he didn’t have time to really hang out, nor did he ever feel up for it. Now that physio had slowed down and he wasn’t going as often, Adam had time to hang out with friends, which was why he had been so excited when Eli asked him. He grabbed his coat off of the rack and walked outside. It was nice out, considering that it was only March. He began walking the familiar way to the Dot. Knowing that he would be there before Eli, he walked inside and took a seat. He waited about ten minutes before looking up when he heard Eli’s voice. “Hey.” He responded. “No it hasn’t been too long. Only about ten minutes.” Adam took a sip of the coffee he had ordered. “I’m good. What about you?”

Eli took a seat opposite of his friend and leaned back, his arms behind his head when he greeted him. “Ahh, see? You get the advantage of living closer,” He said and shook his head. Eli looked at the cup that Adam was drinking out of then asked him how he was. “That’s good to hear, I’m fine,” He said and leaned forward. He was thinking about ordering some coffee too, just to keep his hands busy. He looked down at his hands on the table and back up at Adam, “I still feel really bad about what happened at prom,” He said and shook his head again. Adam was one of his best friends, and it really sucked, what happened to him. Eli knew that he probably didn’t want to talk about it, but he really wanted to know how he was doing. He pushed his chair back a little, “I’m gonna get a coffee, be right back,” He said and drummed on the table before leaving. Then Eli returned to the table and sat down, all ears with coffee in hand. “I want to know, how was therapy.” He asked and took a sip of his piping hot coffee.

Adam could tell Eli was a little jittery, but didn’t put too much thought to it. “Oh definitely. Love being in walking distance of the Dot.” Adam laughed a little bit and watched him carefully, trying to figure out what was wrong. Eli & Adam | Catching Up

It had been a while since Eli and Adam had even seen each other so Eli took the chance to ask him how he was and everything. He felt like a bad friend, he had been pretty much ignoring everyone but Fiona and Imogen lately. He needed to keep himself together and regain his other friends. He was feeling a little better than yesterday which was also a good thing. School was school as usual, crazy and dramatic. When he asked Adam if he wanted to meet up he just wanted to get away from his house and away from his homework that he seemed to be drowning in since he hadn’t done any this week. He wasn’t acting like himself, his controlled self at the moment because that’s exactly what he wasn’t, controlled. He hadn’t taken his medicine for a couple of days, he just wanted to feel like a normal kid again, not a bipolar nutjob.

Eli sighed as he walked out the door of his house and looked around, it was a nice day so why not be cheery about it? He walked down towards The Dot where he was going to meet Adam. He shoved his hands in his pockets as he turned the corner, the coffee shop in view now. He smiled to people passing by him and opened the door. He looked around and found Adam sitting down at a table already, “Hey,” He said and walked up, pulling out a chair, “Did I keep you waiting too long?” He asked as he sat down in the chair. “I couldn’t find my key,” He said and placed his house key on the table between them. He barely had time to find it, and his room was a complete disaster area to begin with, but he shrugged it off. “So how are you?” He asked and smiled at his friend.
