Eli & Adam | Catching Up
Adam could tell Eli was a little jittery, but didn’t put too much thought to it. “Oh definitely. Love being in walking distance of the Dot.” Adam laughed a little bit and watched him carefully, trying to figure out what was wrong. He was a little shocked when Eli said he felt bad. “Eli, you had nothing to do with that. You shouldn’t feel bad at all.” He nodded when Eli stood up and got some coffee. He sat quietly waiting for him to come back. When he said what he did, Adam nearly choked on his coffee. “Uh physio was rough. Intense. But I’m better now. I mean, I’m regaining strength back in my arm quickly. It was a simple shot. Vince didn’t really mean to hit me, if he was aiming, it would’ve been worse. Much worse.”
“Better than what feels like a million blocks of walking,” He shrugged. He missed his car, and he hated that his dad had to drive him to school and pick him up. He could see the pure shock on Adam’s face when he said he felt bad. He was his friend, why wouldn’t he feel bad about it? Maybe he was freaking out over nothing though. “I know,” He said and looked down at his hands again. They were shaking so he moved them off the table and into his lap. Then he got an idea to get coffee, that wouldn’t help but caffeine makes people shake sometimes so he could blame it on that if it was brought up. “Dude, don’t choke,” He said and sat his coffee down, his eyes on Adam. He leaned back into the chair again, “That’s good. That’s true, it was just a freak thing, but still,” He said and took another sip of his coffee. He wanted to ask if he had talked to Clare, but he wasn’t sure if he should or even how. He sat there and looked around the coffee chop before gulping down some more coffee. “Ahh,” He smacked his lips together. “It’s weird to think how close we were last year,” He said, shifting his eyes back to Adam. “Did it change because of me?” He asked. He might be bi-polar but he wasn’t a heartless, soulless black pit, he still felt things.
Adam nodded. “I know. I’m lucky. He could’ve hit somewhere more serious. I’m glad it was just my shoulder.” Adam took a deep breath and listened to him talk. The honest answer was no. They hadn’t changed because of just Eli. It was both of them. Hell it was even Clare somewhat. “No. It wasn’t just you, I mean. After I got shot, everything changed. I didn’t want to see people anymore, no matter what. I hung out with Drew, Bianca, Katie and my family. That was it. I spent my summer locked in my house, playing video games.” Adam sighed. “But I mean, things did start to change after yours and Clare’s breakup. It was just a matter of time before everything changed.”
